Education insolvencies

The education sector covers private schools, colleges, nurseries, training providers, language schools and other education businesses. Most depend on fees, learner numbers or public funding, and carry the fixed costs of premises and teaching staff regardless of how full they are.

A fall in enrolments, the loss of a funding contract or a change in government policy can leave an education business unable to cover those fixed costs. Training providers reliant on apprenticeship or grant funding are particularly exposed when funding rules or volumes change.
