This sector covers software, IT services, telecoms, publishing, film and media. Many are people-heavy businesses where payroll is the largest cost, and growth is often funded by investment rather than profit while the company scales.

When funding tightens, a key client leaves, or a product fails to gain traction, cash can run out quickly because the cost base is largely fixed salaries. Project-based agencies and consultancies are also exposed to clients cancelling or delaying work.
